Just printed: A review from the Spring 2023 The Canadian Music Teacher

Live recordings of 24 Beethoven sonatas have begun appearing on the usual streaming sites: Spotify, YouTube, Apple, Qobuz, and many others. These are original recordings, never before publicly issued, taken from a complete cycle Silverman performed at Le Petit Trianon in San Jose in 2010. The first Sonata is also available here in LISTEN, and the interesting backstory of how this cycle came about is recounted in READ.

An amazing deal

In the 1990s, I began recording a series of audio CDs for Stereophile, a leading high-end stereo magazine. These deluxe products were carefully engineered and produced by John Atkinson, that magazine’s erstwhile editor-in-chief, in conjunction with other legendary figures from the world of high-end audio, using equipment that would make any audio addict drool.

I’d long thought these six CDs (not five as advertised because Concert is a double CD) were unavailable, but I was mistaken. While they remain in stock, Stereophile now sells the entire set for only $50! These are not discards. They contain many of my personal favourites. Deals like this don’t happen often. Grab them while you can…….RS)
